KB425134: When using the ?delegated_mstr_uid wildcard the end of the string is truncated in MicroStrategy 10.2-10.4

Justin Parks

Principal Product Specialist • MicroStrategy

The following knowledge base article describes a known issue with the ?delegated_mstr_uid wildcard which can truncate the end of some strings when being replaced with the user.

Symptom:
When using the ?delegated_mstr_uid wildcard within the "Additional connection string parameters" in Database Connections > Advanced, users may note that under certain circumstances the string when passed to the database is right truncated as shown in the following MySQL example using Database Classes > Connection Management trace:

[HOST:TEST][SERVER:CastorServer][PID:1748][THR:3701405440][Database Classes][Connection Management] Connection cached: Connection ID: 0, Connection String:
DSN=TUTORIAL_WH;DBMS_SESSION.SET_IDENTIFIER=('mstr;, Multiprocess, Non-extended Fetch, Row by Row Insertion, Synchronous, Category: QUERY_ENGINE, ConnectionName: TutorialWHLinux,
DatabaseConnectionID: A7543BCC4AC0AE818ED0F4B4357D2A61, DatabaseInstanceID: A23BBC514D336D5B4FCE919FE19661A3, DatabaseInstanceName: Tutorial MySQL, DatabaseLoginID:
37BE16A011D3E48C1000E787EC6DE8A4, LoginName: Data, MSTRUID: mstr, RealDBUser: mysqladmin, UserName: MSTR User

In this case, the additional connection string parameter was specified as

DBMS_SESSION.SET_IDENTIFIER=('?delegated_mstr_uid')

The issue would not occur if the connection string was specified as shown below for a Cloudera Impala example:

delegationuid=?delegated_mstr_uid

Cause:
This is a known issue with Strategy 10.2 - 10.4 HotFix 3. The issue causes extra characters after the wildcard to be overwritten which can cause issues depending on the specific delegation format.
Action:
This issue is resolved in Strategy 10.5 and later releases.  KB425134
