Recommendations in Workstation
In 11.0, the recommendations feature became available in Workstation, Desktop, Library and Library Mobile. With the new focus on self-service content creation and distribution, it is expected that content will be produced and consumed at a higher rate. This means that the way users discover content will also need to evolve; to be more self-service via Search and Recommendation technologies. This feature provides a way for users to discover and consume similar content.
Value
Recommendations enable users to discover new dossiers based on the metadata object affinities to other dossiers (attributes, metrics, datasets). Currently, in the get info dialog for Dossiers and Documents, there is a tab for recommendations titled "Related Content" where objects are listed in order of relevance, determined by metadata object affinities. This provides the user with more self service by exposing new relevant content and letting the user to interact with it. The recommendations tab consists of up to 30 dossiers that are relevant to the selected dossier or document.
Architecture
From the Workstation side, we are fetching the recommendation objects based on the selected object's ID through a REST API call. When displaying the items, we sort them by their scores - highest first.
Similarity Score
Each dossier has a similarity score depending on the relevance to the selected object. Here is a chart of the attributes and their weight values.

The values with zero (0.0) mean they are turned OFF by default. They can be turned on by an Administrator.
The attributes are tokenized by word to calculate the similarity.
Boosts
There are also "boosts" to bump up the relevance/similarity score of an object. In relation to the similarity score, a value of zero (0) means it is disabled.
Certification flag- If a dossier or document is certified, then the similarity score is boosted. Other dossiers or documents that are similar but aren't certified, will not get this boost. This has a hardcoded value of 2.
Creation Date- By default, this option is turned OFF. This boost helps the user to see more recently created content.
The boost can be enabled by changing the value to one (1). However the boost value will be calculated by an algorithm and range between one (1) and two (2).
Identical dossiers or extremely similar dossiers are removed from the recommendations list, as they are considered copies
As more elements are added into the similarity score, the more likely two objects may lean towards being "identical".
The recommendations API is a part of the Quick Search Engine.
How to Enable/Modify Boosts
The Administrator can enable the boosts for creation date, enable the similarity score for Name, Abbr, etc., by modifying the searchengine.config file.

Security
Object Accessibility is checked by the Recommendation Engine. Only the dossiers (since Strategy 10.11) documents (since Strategy 11.0) with Browse access will be returned for the user.
Project status and accessibility is checked by the Recommendation Engine. Only the dossiers and documents in the loaded and accessibly project will be returned for the user.
Action Steps
First open a get info window (of a dossier or document) by any of the following options:
1. Right-mouse-click the object and select ‘Get Info’
2. Select an object and on the keyboard, CMD + I
3. Right-mouse-click the object and select ‘View Related Content’
After the get info window is opened, make sure it is selected to the ‘Related Content’ tab. If not, please select that tab.
In this view, the user can see up to 30 of the most similar dossiers or documents to the selected object.
Objects that are more similar appear at the top of this view.
Getting related content:

Connect to an environment
Go to Dossiers tab
Right-mouse-click wanted dossier
Select 'View Related Content'

OR Select 'Get Info' and click 'Related Content' tab
OR select wanted dossier and click COMMAND + I to open the get info dialog and go the 'Recommendations' tab

No related content available
When there is no data fetched from the server, no related content will be shown.

Any API Error
When something goes wrong during the data fetching process from the server, this error will be displayed.
