KB484617: "XMLA error. SAX parser is hang after HTTP transfer is finished" error occurs after expanding a hierarchy in an MDX dossier after an upgrade to a higher MicroStrategy version

Karol Marczuk

Consultant • Strategy

This article describes a known behavior with expanding hierarchies in dossiers against MDS data sources, after upgrading to a more recent MicroStrategy version.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Description

After upgrading to Strategy 2019 and 2020, a dossier based on MDX data sources returns the following error after expanding one of the hierarchies.
Error type: XMLA error. SAX parser is hang after HTTP transfer is finished.libcurl:Unknown Exception. Connection String: HTTP://LOCALHOST/StrategyMDX/StrategyMDX.ASMX;..
After running the query directly against the cubes in MSAS, there is no error and the results are returned correctly.

Steps to reproduce

Open the dossier and expand one of the hierarchies.

The error mentioned above is returned.

Why is this happening?

It is possible that the issue is caused by a

MaxTableRows
value that is too high in the
Datasources.xml
file of the MDX cube provider.

Solution

Try decreasing the

MaxTableRows
value to 10000 in
Datasources.xml
.
