LDAP Test Connection fails in Workstation if LDAP is not enabled as an authentication mode in Library

This article discusses an error that configures when testing LDAP connection in Workstation when LDAP is not enabled as an authentication mode in Library.

Steps to Reproduce

1. In Workstation browse to Environment->Directory Service->Configure Directory Service.

2. Confirm LDAP configuration is configured in the “Configure Directory Service” window seen above.

3. Confirm that LDAP is not selected as an available authentication mode in the Library admin page.

4. Test the LDAP connection Workstation by clicking “Test Connection.” The test connection will fail with the error “Invalid authentication mode” as seen below:

Note: Doing the LDAP test connection in Developer at the same time will not result in the error:

In order for the test connection to succeed in Workstation, LDAP must be configured as an available authentication mode for Library. However, the error will not prevent users from connecting with LDAP in client applications where LDAP is configured as an available authentication mode. For example, even if LDAP is not a valid authentication mode in Library, but is configured as an authentication mode in Strategy Web, then users will still be able to connect with LDAP in Web as long as LDAP is otherwise configured correctly.
