Unable to connect to Microsoft Dynamics 365

Xiaodan Ma

Senior Cloud Support Engineer III • MicroStrategy

This article explains how to solve the error 'Cannot invoke "java.sql.Connection.getMetaData()"' when connecting to Microsoft Dynamics 365

Symptom

  1. Create a Microsoft Dynamics 365 data source in WorkStation.
  2. Add a new dataset and choose "Data Import Cube".
  3. Double-click the Microsoft Dynamics 365 data source, type the user credential on the Microsoft login page, click "OK".
  4. An error 'Cannot invoke "java.sql.Connection.getMetaData()"' pops up next to the data source.

Cause

The Dynamics 365 driver builds a relational map of the Dynamics 365 schema and writes it to the location specified by SchemaMap. The Dynamics 365 backend schema has changed since the map was originally generated. The cached Dynamics 365 schema metadata map being reused by the driver was invalid for the current connection.

Solution

  1. Add CreateMap = ForceNew to the connection string to force the creation of a new SchemaMap file.
  2. Make a successful connection to Microsoft Dynamics 365.
  3. Remove CreateMap = ForceNew from the connection string as long as the new SchemaMap is valid.
