When Hypercards are enabled, text area fields are not interactable on the web page

When the Hypercard extension is enabled, some web pages may have non-interactable text areas because the extension modifies the page’s DOM to render keyword highlights.

Symptom

When the hypercard extension is enabled on a web site and keywords are expected to be highlighted on the page, some web pages will experience the issue of having some text areas not be interactable.

Cause

Hyperintelligence browser extension modifies the web page to draw highlights, underlines, and hover functionality on keywords tied to hypercards on the page. However, since the DOM is being edited by the extension, sometimes this can cause adverse effects on the web page.

Solution

To address this, you can update the hyperWebConfig.json in the StrategyLibrary application and define the mutationObserver configuration.

Eg- hyperWebConfig.json

This will define a MutationObserver that closely tracks any structural, style, visibility, or text changes within its overlay region on the page. When those changes occur, the extension can recalculate where to draw highlight boxes, whether something should remain highlighted, etc., so the visual overlay stays aligned with the underlying page content.
