KB19574: Unable to use columns from different tables in a derived attribute in MicroStrategy Developer 9.x

Unable to use columns from different tables in a derived attribute in MicroStrategy Developer 9.x

SYMPTOM:
Derived attributes are attributes that are based on one or more derived form expressions. These expressions consist of operations between one or more columns in combination with constants, database functions, and mathematical operators.

When defining a derived expression (ie. Applysimple), a user will be unable to select or use columns that come from different tables.

CAUSE:
This is expected behavior. By default, all of the columns used in an expression must originate from the same table.

ACTION:
In order to define attribute form expressions with columns that come from different database tables, a user can create logical views that enable this functionality.

For more information about logical views, refer to the 'Logical Tables' Appendix in the Project Design Guide.
