The impact is limited to SAP HANA data warehouses in MicroStrategy 9.4.1 - 10.x when using variable length datatypes. This document explains a potential error that may arise when using these datatypes in conjunction with SAP HANA and a potential solution on how to resolve it.

SUMMARY:
The impact is limited to SAP HANA data warehouses in Strategy 9.4.1 - 10.x when using variable length datatypes. This document explains a potential error that may arise when using these datatypes in conjunction with SAP HANA and a potential solution on how to resolve it.
SYMPTOM:
When showing sample data of a table, updating structure on a table, or attempting move a table into the current project, the following error may occur:

ka04W000000OcYAQA0_0EM440000002JB4.jpeg

Error Processing table structure. The table "table name" could not be found, please check the table prefix defined for it [empty]

CAUSE:
In one scenario seen by Support, this issue was caused by a column that reported itself as having the VARCHAR(n) data type that did not contain an “n” value large enough to contain the max length of the data stored in that column in the database.
The VARCHAR(n) data type specifies a variable-length character string, where n indicates the maximum length in bytes or characters for a field and is an integer between 1 and 5000. When the VARCHAR(n) data type is used in defining a table it should note the maximum length of any piece of data stored in that field.
Now unlike other database platforms where the table and column information is all that needs to be retrieved to utilize and add a table to the Strategy environment, SAP Hana requires additional information to be obtained from the SAP system. This information can possibly cause issues if it shows that the datatype set in the column definition from the SYS.TABLE_COLUMNS table is different from the datatype/length necessary to support the data per the additional system tables queried.
ACTION:
Contact the database administrator and ensure that all the columns that utilize a variable length datatype have a large enough length specified to support all the data stored in that column.
If this does not resolve the issue or does not appear to be linked to the cause please contact Strategy Technical Support for further troubleshooting.
