SYMPTOM:
After making any modifications on an imported SAP BW cube on Strategy MDX cube Catalog, user are facing the issue below as soon as they click on the “Save and close” button.

Also, a similar error can be found logged on the DSSErrros log:

2011-04-26 12:48:50.953-03:00 One or more of the Column objects referred to by the Catalog is dirty or missing. The update cannot be performed.

After this error is seen, users are not able to save any kind of modifications made on the MDX Cube catalog to previously imported cube.

CAUSE:
Users importing MDX cubes from SAP BW data source can get the "source order" from SAP environment to have the Strategy Analytical Engine sort attribute elements in the same way those are presented on the SAP side.
When users are importing SAP BW cubes source order, it can be retrieve from the Hierarchy level as well as from the Dimension level. These 2 operations are using the same Strategy function, and sometimes can cause a problem on the source order definition stored in the Metadata when both are enabled.

WORKAROUND:
Users can disable the option to get the source order on the hierarchy level. If this option is already enabled at the Dimension level, there is no need to select the hierarchy level option also. In order to implement the workaround mentioned, users can follow the steps described below:

  • Open Strategy MDX Cube Catalog
  • Go to Cube Mapping tab
  • Select the problematic cube
  • Scroll down to problematic Dimension
  • Right click on Hierarchy > Properties > Hierarchy > Unselect the checkbox for: "The order of the hierarchy nodes should be preserved..."
  • Click OK

In case the option is greyed-out:

  • Right click on dimension (No hierarchy) to uncheck the option at the Dimension level.
  • Properties > Hierarchies > Unselect the checkbox for: "The order of the hierarchy nodes should be preserved..."
  • Click OK
  • Go to hierarchy > Properties > Hierarchy > Unselect the checkbox for: "The order of the hierarchy nodes should be preserved..."
  • Click OK
