KB40783: "ORA-02391: exceeded simultaneous SESSIONS_PER_USER limit" error message appears when browsing folders or editing metric against Oracle Metadata in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.1 and 10.x.

While browsing folders or editing metric against Oracle Metadata in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.1 and 10.x, an error message may be encountered indicating that simultaneous sessions were exceeded.

SYMPTOM:
While browsing folders or editing metric against Oracle Metadata in Strategy Developer 9.4.1 and 10.x, the below error message is shown:

ORA-02391: exceeded simultaneous SESSIONS_PER_USER limit

CAUSE:
According to Oracle documentation, it is because an attempt was made to exceed the maximum number of concurrent sessions allowed by the SESSION_PER_USER of the user profile.
Users may also observe multiple "Repository Connection" in Administration>System Monitors>Database Connections and it is the database connection to the metadata. The same as warehouse connection, one "Repository Connection" takes up one "MJMulPrc_32.exe" (32bit machine) or "MJMulPrc_32.exe*32" (64bit machine) process in the back-end. Usually, the number is relatively small since most of the MD jobs are very quick. Refer to below technical note for more information about maximum number of concurrent connections to metadata:
KB8550: What is the maximum number of concurrent connections that Strategy Intelligence Server can make to the metadata, in Strategy 9.4.1 and 10.x?

ACTION:
Consult Database Administrator of Oracle to increase the setting of SESSION_PER_USER.
