KB486201: Namespace and table names returned by Square ODBC are not the same as JDBC

Jinlei Cai

Quality Engineer, Senior • MicroStrategy

This article details how to resolve issues with running existing reports or republishing cubes with data from Square.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Symptom

After upgrading to Strategy ONE Update 12, users may encounter issues when running existing reports or republishing cubes with data from Square.

Cause

Starting in Strategy ONE Update 12, Strategy ships the Square ODBC driver, instead of the JDBC driver, for customers to connect to Square when importing data in Workstation and Web.

Square stores data in structures that do not follow the rules of data typing and structure that apply to traditional relational tables and columns. Since traditional ODBC tool sets may not support these data structures, the data must be mapped to a relational form. To achieve this, the Simba Square ODBC Connector uses schema tables to map the Square data to an ODBC-compatible format.

The driver vendor, Simba, has confirmed that the naming conversions for ODBC and JDBC are different, so these two drivers should not be compared.

Action

Since this is a limitation from the driver vendor, users encountering this issue have to update tables in the cube and dossier accordingly.
