KB487895: HTML and JavaScript content get disabled after saving the Dashboards

Alejandra Rojas

Senior Cloud Support Engineer I • MicroStrategy

This article explains the necessary steps to ensure that HTML and JavaScript content remains enabled on dashboards. Users often face issues where these content types get disabled automatically when saving a dashboard.

Symptom

When a user saves a dashboard with HTML and JavaScript content enabled, the content gets automatically disabled. This issue persists despite initial configuration to enable this content across all dashboards.

Cause

This issue occurs because  the content-level setting, "Enable HTML and JavaScript Content," can only be enabled if the user has the "Configure server basic" and "Configure security settings" privileges. Without these privileges, attempting to edit and save dashboards, documents, reports, or Bot content will result in the automatic disabling of the content-level setting.

Solution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Verify that the user has the necessary privileges:

    • "Configure server basic"
    • "Configure security settings"
  2. If the user lacks these privileges, an administrator must grant them:

    • Navigate to Strategy's Administration interface.
    • Go to the "Users and Groups" section.
    • Select the user or group needing privilege adjustments.
    • Assign the "Configure server basic" and "Configure security settings" privileges.
  3. Ensure that the content-level setting is enabled:

    • Open the specific dashboard, document, report, or Bot content.
    • Go to the Properties panel and check "Enable HTML and JavaScript Content."
    • Save changes.

By ensuring that the user has the correct privileges and that content-level settings are properly configured, HTML and JavaScript will remain enabled in the dashboard.
