Can MicroStrategy Intelligence Server work with a different version of metadata?

Metadata version should always match Intelligence Server version. That is, the metadata must be upgraded to 10.4 to use Strategy Intelligence Server 10.4. In direct connection deployments, client products (such as Strategy Developer) should also be updated to the newer version of Strategy Intelligence Server.
In case you are receiving errors like “Metadata is in older version and needs to be upgraded” you should first make a backup copy of your metadata and then run Configuration Wizard with the option to “Upgrade existing environment to Strategy Analytics Enterprise”.
