KB485126: Cannot launch MicroStrategy Integrity Manager after upgrading to MicroStrategy 2021

Yating (Tiffanie) Zhai

Senior Cloud Support Engineer III • MicroStrategy

This article addresses the error returned when launching MicroStrategy Integrity Manager after upgrading to MicroStrategy 2021. This article also provides a solution to avoid this error.

Description

After upgrading to Strategy 2021, you may get the following error when launching Strategy Integrity Manager.

ka04W000000uGYxQAM_0EM4W0000029I53.jpeg

Why is this happening?

This error occurs due to a lack of read/write permission for the directory "

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\MicroStrategy\Log
".
In Strategy 2021, Integrity Manager upgraded the logger
lib log4j
to the latest version, and the logger now throws non-handled exceptions when the target log path is not accessible.
This behavior has been identified as a defect in version 2021 because the lack of permission for logging path should not stop the user from launching Integrity Manager. The logger initialization error should be captured and Integrity Manager should be launched without logging if the user lacks permission to the log path.

Workaround

The user must be granted read/write permission for the directory "

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\MicroStrategy\Log
".

Action

This has been fixed in 2021 Update 3. Feel free to upgrade the environment to take advantage of the fix.
