KB483426: Date type attribute elements receive an apostrophe prefix in cell formulas in non-English Microsoft Excel

Willian Tomazini

Senior Cloud Support Engineer I • MicroStrategy

This article explains how to remove apostrophes from cell formulas in non-English Microsoft Excel with MicroStrategy Office in order to open reports.

Symptom

Accessing a report with date attributes in Strategy Office causes cells containing attribute elements to have an apostrophe prefix in the formula field.

Cause

A possible reason for this is that there is a language differences between Microsoft Office and the report containing the date attribute elements.
For example, if your Strategy environment language is set to the default (English) and your Microsoft Office language is set to a different language, say Portuguese, the apostrophe prefix will display in the cell formulas in Excel.

Action

To remove the apostrophe prefixes, use the following steps:

  • In Strategy Office, navigate to Strategy Office Options > General > Grid > Formatting.
  • Apply the date/time cell formatting semantics to the date/time values. For instructions, see KB41220: How MicroStrategy Office handle formatting of attributes with a format type of Date.
  • Navigate to Strategy Office Options > General > International.
  • Under Excel Format Language, select Choose an explicit language and choose English (United States) [en-US (1033)].

  • Click OK.
  • Restart Excel. Open your report and notice the apostrophe prefixes are gone.
