KB483901: In a Compound Grid, an error appears when sorting a metric ascending or descending when an attribute in the same column set displays multiple attribute form names and has subtotals enabled

Cheng Guo

This article provides a workaround to the error, "No appropriate template subtotal corresponds to the metric and subtotal definition specified in the hierarchical sort."

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Description

In a Compound Grid, checking multiple attribute display forms,  displaying attribute form names, and enabling subtotals on a single metric may result in an error when you try to sort a metric in ascending or descending order.

Steps to Reproduce

  • In Strategy Web 2020, create a dossier with a Compound Grid visualization.
  • Add an attribute and a metric to both Column Set 1 and Column Set 2.

This issue is currently under investigation by Strategy Technology team. For an immediate solution, see the following workaround.

Workaround

  1. In your first column set, right-click your attribute and select multiple attribute forms to display.
  2. Choose Off from the drop-down to Display attribute form names.
  3. On the same attribute, enable your subtotals.
  4. Right-click a metric from the first column set and choose Sort Ascending or Sort Descending.
  5. Return to the Display Attribute Form on the same attribute from step 1 and choose On from the drop-down to Display attribute form names.
  6. Click OK.
