Community Admin

• Strategy

This document instructs users changing the motherboard of an operating system constitutes a hardware change and will need a re-activation of the server products.

SYMPTOM

Consider a Strategy Intelligence Server or Web Server that has already been activated and has hardware problems. To resolve these, the motherboard of that machine is replaced. Does the same machine, previously activated, need to be re-activated or restarted?
ACTION
The server is no longer identified as the original machine when the hardware changes. Therefore, the server needs to be re-activated to work properly.

To re-activate the server, refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical note:

KB14855: Just after installing MicroStrategy Web, the post-installation process for activation shows up even though MicroStrategy Intelligence Server was installed on separate hardware that has already been activated
