KB274709: "com.microstrategy.utils.cache.CacheException: PKIX path building: unable to find valid certification path to requested target" error appears when loading an ESRI Map visualization in MicroStrategy Web.

Symptom

When using an ESRI Map visualization in Strategy Web, the following error may either pop up or display in the visualization area depending on the version of Strategy Web in use.
"com.Strategy.utils.cache.CacheException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target."

Cause

This may be caused by the use of an authenticated proxy interfering with the communication between Strategy Web and the ArGIS servers when obtaining an ESRI token. For more information on a similar issue, refer to tech note KB46348  and for more information on this token retrieval process to tech note KB46526 .

Action

Proxy server support for HTTP requests to ESRI has been added in Strategy Web 9.4.1 Hotfix 6. Follow the instructions in KB202342 to resolve this issue.

Workaround

Ensure that the web server has access to the internet without the use of a proxy, allowing it to connect to the ArcGIS servers.
