KB315988: In Microstrategy Web 10.5 and above, Heat Map Disappears After Adding Image Layout Visualization to Visual Insight

SUMMARY:
This technical note addresses a known issue in 10.5 when the Heat Map option disappears after adding the Image Layout visualization. A workaround is provided at the end of this document.
 
SYMPTOM:
In Strategy 10.5 Visual Insight, the Heat Map visualization option disappears after adding the Image Layout visualization via the Web Customization Editor.
 

 
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1. Follow KB278784: How to Enable the Image Layout Visualization in MicroStrategy Web 10.4 to add the Image Layout visualization in Strategy Web 10.5 using the Web Customization Editor.
2. The Heat Map visualization no longer appears in Web as an option when creating a new Visual Insight dashboard.

 
CAUSE:
This is an identified issue and has been logged internally. The Web Customization Editor appends an additional line of code when the plugin is compiled.
 
ACTION:
Strategy will continue to investigate and post updates as soon as they are available.
 
WORKAROUND:

1. Navigate to ..\MicroStrategy\plugins\ImageLayout\WEB-INF\xml\config
2. Edit the visualization.xml file
3. Remove the following line: 

<visualization scope="1" style-name="VIHeatMapVisualizationStyle"/>

1. Save the changes
2. Restart the Web Server
3. Refresh the browser
4. Note that the Heat Map visualization will reappear in Strategy Web:
