KB34120: How to modify sorting in Developer so cross-tab nulls are placed on the end of a descending sort

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This article describes how to modify sorting in Developer so cross-tab nulls are placed on the end of a descending sort.

In a report in Strategy where cross-tabbing is present, sorting may be desired in a descending order on the first column of the report:

However, after enabling sorting, the default behavior of Developer is to place the cross-tab nulls above non-null values, as shown in the screenshot above, which may not be desired. The following procedure describes how to enable settings which will place the cross-tab nulls below the non-null values in Strategy Developer.

  • Go to Data > Report Display Options > Display > Null Values and uncheck "Use default" for Null Display Settings:
  • Check "Set the value to be used in place of empty values when the report data is sorted" and click OK:
  • Re-execute the report.
  • The cross-tab nulls should appear at the bottom of the grid instead of the top:

For more information regarding the differences between cross tabulation nulls and warehouse nulls, refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base documents:
