What is the MJMulPrc_32 process and what is its significance?

Introduced in Strategy 9.x, the MJMulPrc_32 process handles multiple tasks for the Strategy Intelliegence Server. These include ODBC database connection handling, as well as, Distribution Services processing and delivery.

MJMulPrc_32 is primarily a ODBC database connection process created to connect the Strategy Intelligence Server to the metadata and warehouse databases. These processes represent active data retrieval from these databases. Multiple MJMulPrc_32 processes may be spawned by the Intelligence Server to facilitate concurrent data retrieval. These connections can be managed through the "Connection Lifetime" and "Connection Idle Timeout" governing settings. Otherwise, these processes are automatically created and closed by the Intelligence Server based on usage. In Strategy 9.x, existing processes are reused via connection caching feature which minimizes the overhead cost associated with establishing and disconnecting ODBC connections.

Open ODBC connections may be viewed in the "Database Connection Monitor" in the Administration section of the Administrator's view of a 3-tier project source. A technical note is also available for descriptions of the "Connection lifetime" and "Connection Idle Timeout" governing settings.  For more information, refer to:

  • KB8780: How does the connection caching feature interact with the connection mapping feature in MicroStrategy Intelligence Server 10.x
  • KB5598: What are the "Connection lifetime" and "Connection Idle Timeout" options under the Database Connection Caching section in MicroStrategy Intelligence Server?

In addition to ODBC database connection handling, the MJMulPrc_32 process is an integral part of Strategy Distribution Services 9.x. This process handles the transmission of subscriptions and any required format transformations for those deliveries. The MJMulPrc_32 process is created, by the Intelligence Server, any time a Distribution Services schedule is triggered and reports need to be delivered to subscribers.
