KB439183: Selector values are not passed correctly when using URL API

Community Admin

• Strategy

Selector values that are transferred or exported using URL API are not updated during transfer according to what is currently selected.

INTRODUCTION
Strategy Web allows users to create a button in a document which will leverage URL API to transfer selector values to another document or export them directly to Excel.
For more information about achieving this see the following articles:

KB40183: How to use URL API to dynamically pass selector values to a document with a cube report containing multiple prompts to be exported to Excel from Strategy Web 9.2.x

KB37031: How to export a Report Services document to Excel with formatting using URL API using Strategy Web 10.x
However, users sometimes observe that values which are transferred or exported are not refreshed, i.e. when new values are chosen in a selector it will still be the old values that are transferred.

CAUSE
This behavior is caused by the fact that the action button is placed outside of the panel stack where the selector is. In such a case the URL API will pass the values but won’t be able to refresh them.

ACTION
Make sure the action button is a part of the panel stack where the selector is placed. To be sure it’s set correctly within the panel stack use the ‘+’ icon on the panel stack toolbar to create it, as seen below:
