KB44004: "Your request could not be processed due to a server error" message occurs within report grid area when executing a prompted report in MicroStrategy Web

Community Admin

• Strategy

When executing a prompted report in MicroStrategy Web, the error below displays inside the report's grid area.

Symptom

When executing a prompted report in Strategy Web, the error below displays inside the report's grid area.  There are no errors recorded in the Strategy Web error logs.

An Error has occurred on this page.
Your request could not be processed due to a server error.

Cause

Microsoft IIS, which uses the .Net Framework to compile the application will keep application level caches. These caches are not cleared when uninstalling Strategy Web or when installing a newer version Strategy Web on top of an older one. When this occurs, all requests for files that have been cached continue to be served using the cached or "older" files and soon the users start using a mixture of old and new files that can cause different issues such as this one.

Action

Refer to KB42534: How to clear the various caches interacting with MicroStrategy Web  for instructions on how to clear the application server and browser caches.
