KB441270: ScanMD – main things to remember

Stefano Antonellis

Principal Product Specialist • Strategy

There are several things to remember before downloading, installing and using ScanMD.

ScanMD detects and fixes logical inconsistencies already known to Strategy.

  1. Where to Download ScanMD from?

  • Please use the latest ScanMD version.
  • To verify the ScanMD version, go to Windows > Control Panel
  • To download ScanMD depending on the current version being used (a patch is needed for MSTR 10.3 onwards - attachments on the KB articles):

For Strategy Product Suite 2019 and later, the instructions on how to install and run ScanMD are provided in the following technical note KB483179.
 KB483179.
     2. ScanMD Installation

  • Make sure Strategy Developer is installed on the same machine.
  • Uninstall any previous ScanMD installation if any.
  • Run ScanMD installation by double-clicking "setup.exe" in the unzipped folder.
  • Follow the installation wizard to complete the installation.

      3. Before Running ScanMD

  • Make sure there is a 2 Tier Project Source connecting to the target Metadata.
  • The Strategy Intelligence Server should be stopped, or that Project unloaded. No users should be connected to the project undergoing a fix.
  • There is NO Metadata LOCK enforced when ScanMD is running.
  • A database backup of the metadata must be made. With a backup of the metadata in place, proposed fixes should only be accepted if the full impact of the fix is understood.
