KB442000: For projects with Data Engine Version=11 or above, Data Combination setting is unavailable to change and defaults to "Use minimum relations to join..."

This article notes the retirement of Data Combination setting for projects with Data Engine Version=11.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
DESCRIPTION
Starting Strategy 11.0, newly created projects will default and only have access to use min relation when doing data blending on documents and dashboards. This setting is being retired for any project with Data Engine Version = 11 or above. For more details on enabling the setting, refer to Change Data Engine Version. Use max relation for data blending would use all element combinations from all source datasets. Thus creating a large number of temporary cubes of very large size in memory and may cause instability to Intelligence Server. Min relation focuses on using just the minimum number of source datasets possible to perform the calculation for the needed dataset. This is a change from the earlier default which was to use max relation in Strategy 10. This will be an important thing to consider when building dashboards using multiple datasets that are all incomplete but used to relate other datasets together.
This may require design changes when building out new dashboards depending on the data involved. Scenarios such as the one from the below tech note will require more work to solve with creation of new source datasets.
KB439249: Partial or incomplete joins between datasets are seen when using data blending with multiple possible datasets to use to join in MicroStrategy
In that example a new complete dataset would need to be created and a filter or metric would have to be included on the grid to force its use. The data source field could be changed for a visualization but only if no further modifications would happen to the design of that visualization.
Please also note that this setting was originally available at project and dashboard/dossier level and even for existing project (Data Engine Version = 10) once the setting is changed to Min relation, web will stop displaying the setting anymore. This is to discourage the use of setting and setting it up for retirement.
Project level setting for existing projects (Data Engine Version=10) uses Max relation by default.
