"TypeError: Unable to get value of the property "ty": object is null or undefined" error displays within a Google Map widget when running a document in MicroStrategy Web

Description

In Strategy Web, users may encounter unexpected behavior when running a document containing a Google Map widget.  This particular error occurs in Presentation view mode:

Steps to reproduce

Required: Google Maps has already been deployed by following KB36062: How to deploy and configure the Google Maps connector plugin in MicroStrategy Web 9.x

  • Go to Strategy Web.
  • Go to the project "Strategy Tutorial".
  • Create a new blank report.
  • Insert the Store attribute into the row, with no metrics.

  • Edit the display Attribute Forms for the Store attribute to show Longitude and Latitude forms.
  • Save the report and create a document from the report.
  • Within the document, insert a Map widget.
  • Insert Store into the widget row section and do not include any metrics
  • Right mouse-click in the widget and choose 'Widget Properties.' In the widget properties, leave the properties  as default like shown below.

  • Run the document in presentation view mode. The error should show up and no points should show on the map.

Why is this happening?

This is a known issue in Strategy. The impact is limited to documents in Strategy Web using the Google Map widget, when the widget contains no metrics.

Solution

Solution 1

Insert at least one metric within the column section of the Map widget grid in Design or Editable view mode.

Solution 2

Uncheck the "Apply color formatting to map" option within the widget properties.  This setting is shown below.

Either of the above workarounds will display the Google Map widget without error.
