SYMPTOM
In Strategy 10.x, when start the Enterprise Manager service using the command line of "./mstrctl -s EMService start", the terminal session is left in a unresponsive state.
It happens to both bash and ksh shell, with typing feedback not displayed and no reaction to newline. However, the Enterprise Manager service has been brought up in backend.
Below is a snippet of the command output:
-bash-4.1$ mstrctl -s EMService stop -bash-4.1$ MType=DEFAULT Service shutting down! -bash-4.1$ mstrctl -s EMService gs|grep state stopped -bash-4.1$ mstrctl -s EMService start -bash-4.1$ -bash-4.1$ -bash-4.1$ -bash-4.1$ -bash-4.1$ -bash-4.1$ -bash-4.1$
CAUSE
This is a known issue with Strategy 10.x.
ACTION
This issue has been fixed in Strategy 10.6 GA. Upgrade to the latest feature release version to take advantage of the fix.
WORKAROUNDS
There are two workarounds:
Type in "reset" and session goes back to normal.
Switch to tcsh shell, the service starts successfully.
And it is noticed the system throws a string like below:
rehl:/bin>MType=DEFAULT Start EM Service.
