KB486079: Upgrade Project to MicroStrategy 2021 Update 8 is failed with error “Object with ID '4FE01010705C4177B5ECB2E4F967F01B' and type 21 (Attribute Form) is not found in metadata. It may have been deleted."

Upgrade Project to MicroStrategy 2021 Update 8 is failed with error “Object with ID '4FE01010705C4177B5ECB2E4F967F01B' and type 21 (Attribute Form) is not found in metadata. It may have been deleted.”

Symptom

During Metadata live upgrade to Strategy 2021 update 8, one of the projects is failed with below error:

Configuration operation failed with error(s).: Executing Project Logical update on project xxx': (Object with ID '4FE01010705C4177B5ECB2E4F967F01B' and type 21 (Attribute Form) is not found in metadata. It may have been deleted. An unrecoverable error occurred during update. See log file '/opt/mstr/MicroStrategy/log/MDUPD-4-26.log' for details.)

Cause

Strategy introduce two new form categories with name “Start” and “End” in Metadata live upgrade in 2021 Update 8, when upgrade to 2021 Update 8, these two form categories will be created with below GUIDs.

  • Start: 4FE01010705C4177B5ECB2E4F967F01B
  • End: E0E17F8B947B4DC0B0D73BB5C48FC0EF

If there are form categories with name “Start” and “End” already exist in the same folder (user create them manually), then during the upgrade, the newly added form categories with same name will fail to be created under that folder.

Action

Rename the user-defined “Start” and “End” form categories before the upgrade to avoid such error, but the result is both of the user-defined form categories "start" and "End" (which has been renamed) and the newly added form categories "start" and "end" are co-exist, so maybe kind of confusion for users.
Another option is to contact Strategy Technical Support to unify the GUIDs of the form categories using internal tool.
