How to configure a Database Instance in order to connect to a JBoss Data Virtualization instance in MicroStrategy Secure Enterprise.

SUMMARY
The following Technical Note contains an example of how to configure a Database Instance in order to connect to a JBoss Data Virtualization instance in Strategy Secure Enterprise 10.4.

For further information on how to connect to database using JDBC Drivers, please refer to:
KB250923: Connecting to Databases using JDBC Drivers in Strategy 10.x

The environment used in the below example is configured using:

  • Strategy Intelligence Server Universal 10.4 running on AIX 7.1
  • JBoss Data Virtualization

Following the instructions described in KB250923, initially, the Database Instance had been configured with the following string:

JDBC;MSTR_JDBC_JAR_FOLDER=[path to Driver.jar folder];DRIVER=[file].jar;URL=jdbc:teiid:CNE@mms://IP/URL.

As noted above, the JDBC DRIVER field is making reference to the JDBC driver jar file. By using this configuration, the connection to the Strategy DB Query Tool works and tables can be selected normally with no error. However, the error below occurs when connecting through Strategy Intelligence Server:

DSSErrors:

This is a generic error message, but essentially means it could find an entry point for the teiid driver. The reason for this is because the DRIVER parameter is either not specified or specified incorrectly and the jar file's manifest does not contain a reference for it's main class path.

In this case, for the teiid driver, modifying the DRIVER parameter to the main entry point of the teiid driver as seen below allows the connection to work as expected.

JDBC;MSTR_JDBC_JAR_FOLDER=[path];DRIVER=org.teiid.jdbc.TeiidDriver;URL=jdbc:teiid:CNE@mms://IP/URL
