KB287672: The On Screen Web Statistics reports the Intelligence Server Processing Time inaccurately in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.x and 10.x

Community Admin

• Strategy

SYMPTOM:
The Strategy Web statistics can be used to profile the performance of the execution of a Report Services Document. Note, for more information refer to tech note KB10211 .
When the Strategy Web 9.4.x and 10.x Statistics are enabled and a dashboard is executed the Strategy Intelligence Server stats are incorrectly reported as a number less than 3 seconds long, as shown below.

IServer processing Time: 2995 milliseconds.

In order to get an accurate time representation the user must disable the wait page per KB34124 in order the for the web statistics not to reset the Iserver process time.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Create a document that takes about 5 minutes to execute.
  2. Enable the Strategy Web statistics from the Web Admin page > Diagnostics "On Screen".
  3. Execute the document. Notice that the Wait Page or Processing Request Page will appear and refresh the page several times.
  4. Once the execution finishes, observe that the IServer Processing Time statistics do not account for the 5 minutes that it took to execute the dashboard

CAUSE:
This is an identified defect in Strategy Web 9.4.x and 10.x. Every time the Wait Page or Processing Request Page, the IServer Processing Time statistics get erased and the count starts over. Since the default value for this setting is 3 seconds, as shown below, the final value can never go above 3 seconds.

ACTION:
Currently this issue is still being reviewed for feasibility by our Technology team and it is not scoped for any upcoming scheduled Strategy release.

WORKAROUND:
In order to get an accurate time representation, disable the wait page per tech note KB34124 . The wait page can then be turned back on after finishing the performance profiling of the document.

The Strategy Internal Reference Number for the issue discussed in this technical note is DE27768.
