This KB article discusses an issue that may occur when a previous MicroStrategy version was not completely removed from the machine with a newer MicroStrategy version where a hotfix is being installed.

SYMPTOM:
The Strategy 9.4.x Hotfix installer program running on a Windows machine fails with the following error message:


Unrecoverable error

The setup routine cannot recover from this error:
File name: Z:\InstallMaster\Win64\Hotfix\Hotfix\Script Files\MAProducts.rul.
Function name: UseDLL
Line number:29
Elapsed time:  xxxx ms
Description: The file C:\DOCUME~1\<user>\LOCALS~1\Temp\1\{CD1BB191-5E48-491B-842B-1AAE94F14EB1}\{2CFFA6D2-052C-474D-8C4A-F96DC6B310FE}\MAInst.dll failed to load
The setup routine will now terminate.

CAUSE:
This error can occur if a previous Strategy installation was not completely removed from the machine where the newer Strategy version was installed.

ACTION:
Remove the following folders from the drive where the previous Strategy version was installed:

<Drive>:\Program Files\Strategy
<Drive>:\Program Files\Common Files\Strategy

After the above folders have been removed, the Strategy 9.4.x installation will proceed successfully.
