How to increase the request timeout setting for MicroStrategy Office accessing Web Services J2EE.

When the Office report execution fails with a Request timeout error, one of the immediate actions to alleviate the issue is to increase the timeout setting. For more information about this error message, see KB11845 : "Request timeout" error message appears before reaching timeout governors when running a large report in Strategy Office.

If Web Services is deployed on a J2EE environment, locate the file called "MWSConfig.properties" where the Web Services J2EE .war was deployed.  For example, in Tomcat this file is found under Tomcat\webapps\StrategyWS\.

In this file, locate the following lines:

#SERVERBUSYTIMEOUT and REQUESTTIMEOUT are set at application startup
#and apply to all connections.
#seconds
REQUESTTIMEOUT=120
#seconds
SERVERBUSYTIMEOUT=300

Increase the values for REQUESTTIMEOUT and SERVERBUSYTIMEOUT, then restart the application server.

For information about how to increase the request timeout in ASP environment, see KB11690 : What are the request timeout settings for Strategy Office?
