Over time, a data warehouse's structure can change. By following the guidelines contained in this document, users will be able to properly alter the warehouse's structure without causing object inconsistencies.
Perform the following steps to ensure object consistency:
- Enable Invisible Objects. For more information on this, see KB19828: How to display hidden and invisible folders/objects in MicroStrategy Developer 10.x?
- Server any mappings from Strategy objects to the data warehouse column being removed:
- Search for objects dependent on the column being removed. Go to the System Objects folder and right-click on the column that is being removed to Search for Dependents.
- Go to each of the attributes and facts returned by the dependency search and ensure that each of those objects are not using the column. This will sever any dependencies between this object and the table.
- Proceed in removing the columns from the data warehouse.
Note: Users should consult the Database Administrator on how to carry out this step.
- Update the Table Structure for the affected Table(s).
After removing the column from the database, users should update the table structure for the affected table(s) using the Strategy Warehouse Catalog. For more information, see KB5147: How to update changes in existing table definitions in MicroStrategy Architect 9.4.x-10.x.
Note: After modifying any Schema objects, perform an Update Schema for the changes to take effect.
