For customers on Strategy 10.11
Now available for feature release—Strategy 10.11 Critical Update 1 (v10.11.1)

We’ve joined the most successful companies like Microsoft, Apple and others in adopting a critical update* framework and evolving our Technical Support policies and procedures to give our customers software updates that can be easily applied with little-to-no disruption to your production environments.
Strategy 10.11 Critical Update 1 (v10.11.1) is now available on our software download site and the Strategy on AWS cloud provisioning console. We fixed 56 total defects in Critical Update 1, of which 23 were reported by our customers. These fixes address performance (2), security (3), and stability (12), among other issues. We also extended support for version 10.11 to June 30, 2019 and have committed to providing Critical Updates on top of 10.11 as needed. If you have environments on Strategy 10.11, this gives you a full 6-month window to upgrade to the new platform release (v11.1) after it is released in December 2018 (more information below).

* Though previous Strategy hotfixes were designed for seamless deployment without requiring metadata updates, we listened to your feedback that the terminology could imply that these fixes require end-to-end testing prior to promotion to production. • License key validation updated to enable ease of control • Over 150 defects addressed in Hotfix 8
The latest hotfix for Strategy 10.4 is also now available on our software download site and the Strategy
on AWS cloud provisioning console. We fixed 157 total defects with Hotfix 8 (10.4.8), of which 78 were reported by our customers. These fixes address performance (8), security (5), and stability (24) among other issues. We extended support for version 10.4 to December 31, 2020 with the implementation of this latest hotfix. We’ve also committed to provide you quarterly updates to the 10.4.8 hotfix as needed.
We recommend our customers plan to upgrade 10.4 environments in 2019 to take advantage of the latest and greatest capabilities it provides. Our timeline for extended support and quarterly hotfix updates gives you an extended runway to plan and implement your upgrade to the new platform release (v11.1) after it is released in December 2018 (more information below). This upcoming, inline upgrade provides all users—business users, analysts, developers, architects, administrators, and more—access to hundreds of new features and capabilities featured on our most advanced product yet.
New license key process for Strategy 10.4 platform release Hotfix 8 (v10.4.8)
Starting with the Strategy 10.4.8 update, we’ve added a new procedure to help protect your Intelligence Platform investment across your environments. These license compliance checks provide you with additional controls over your Strategy environment and usage. As part of the 10.4.8 platform install, the install process will prompt for a license key. This new license key can be easily attained from the Strategy download site.
The new version-specific license key will be limited to the number of named user or CPU licenses purchased. Once the 10.4 hotfix 8 server is started, the Strategy platform will audit the system usage for license compliance and indicate to administrators (and eventually end users) if the usage of Strategy is out of compliance with the purchased license amounts. The license key initiates a process to check your environment and help alert you to any named user or CPU compliance issues identified. The license compliance experience varies slightly based on NU, CPU, or hybrid configuration.
- Named user configurations – Customers are prompted to acknowledge compliance messages during install and receive follow-up notifications to help address concerns in a timely manner.
- CPU-based configurations – Customers are not prompted to acknowledge compliance during the installation process. Alternately, we evaluate customers who may experience responsiveness issues once the install is applied to the specified number of CPU cores, and we will reach out to your designated Administrators to help you address any resulting impacts or issues.
- Hybrid configurations – Customers may experience one or both of the compliance acknowledgement processes above, depending on how updates are applied.
Whether you’ve used a named user, CPU, or hybrid configuration approach for your Strategy deployment, please contact MicroStrategy Technical Support if you experience any issues implementing your hotfix. We will help you rectify your concerns as quickly as possible, and can quickly provide you with a new temporary license key if you are in an out-of-compliance state so your users are unaffected.

As part of our commitment to the long-term success of our customers, we’ve invigorated our product development lifecycle to provide our customers new tried-and-true platform releases every 12 months. Moving forward, we plan to unveil our latest platform release annually each December—starting with version 11.1.
Designed to accelerate your journey to an Intelligent Enterprise, version 11.1 comes with a suite of in-product analytics tools that improve transparency into the health of your overall intelligence technology and complementing technique. Planned to hit the market in December 2018, this powerful platform release includes 36 months of subsequent scheduled support. Prior platform releases like 10.4 and 9.4.1 were available after a 24-36 month development cycle, so we invested in advancing this timeline to help you more rapidly implement the enhanced features, capabilities, and services that drive the engine of your unique data-driven business.
The upcoming feature release in September 2018 (v11.0) introduces the Strategy Intelligent Enterprise Platform. Supported through March 2019, this version features new capabilities specifically aimed at helping make upgrades between versions as seamless as possible, including improved system monitoring, integrity testing, and upgrade validation. Customers who upgrade to each feature release will be able to easily upgrade from their version of 10.x to version 11.0, and then subsequently to the 11.1 platform release.

How to prepare for the next Strategy platform release
Upgrade. Each Strategy release builds on the previous release. As such, we encourage you to start using Strategy 10.11 today and upgrade to Strategy Intelligent Enterprise Platform (v11.0) when it’s available in September. It’ll give you and your users time with the new range of functionality and an opportunity to report any issues you find ahead of the platform release in December.
Sandbox testing – available in minutes. If you’d prefer to try out 11.0 or 10.11 in a test environment, then there’s no easier or faster way than using Strategy on AWS. Just select the version of Strategy you’d like to deploy, and a fully configured, optimized version of Strategy will be set up for you in minutes – you can even deploy it into your existing AWS VPC.
