KB440832: Users are not Prompted to Enter Comments for the Change Journal after Updating the Properties for an Object

Caitlin Corrigan

Senior Education Developer • Strategy

This article describes a known limitation where users are not prompted to enter comments for the Change Journal after updating the Properties for an object, such as the object owner, when comments are enabled.

SYMPTOM:
When commenting has been enabled for Change Journal transactions, users expect that any change to an object will prompt the user with a comment box.  When making a change to the Properties of an object, such as the object owner, users are not prompted to enter comments, but the change is still recorded in the Change Journals.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Enabled Change Journaling at the Intelligence Server Configuration level (refer to KB42327 for detailed steps).
  2. Enable the comments dialog box for Change Journals (refer to KB35583 for detailed steps).
  3. In Developer, open the User Editor.
  4. Right-click a user and select “Properties.”
  5. Add an ACL entry or change the user’s owner and select “OK.”
  6. User is not prompted to enter comments for the Change Journal.
  7. Right-click the same user and change the user’s project permissions then select “OK.”
  8. User is prompted to enter comments for the Change Journal.

The same behavior is observed when making changes to the properties of project objects such as reports, metrics, etc.

CAUSE:
This is a known limitation with Strategy Developer.

ACTION:
Currently there are no plans to address this issue and it is not scoped for any upcoming scheduled Strategy release.

WORKAROUND:
These changes are still recorded in the Change Journal.  “Object properties were modified” is automatically entered into the Comments section of the transaction.
