Community Admin

• Strategy

This article details how to connect to SAP HANA via DSN or without DSN. After connecting, you can choose an authentication method of your choice.

Strategy can connect to SAP HANA via DSN or without DSN. Once you connect, you can choose an  authentication method.

Connect via DSN

  • Create a new database instance and select SAP HANA as the database connection type.

Authentication Options

Configure Password Authentication

When connecting with a DSN, password authentication is the default authentication mechanism for Strategy users connecting to SAP HANA. You must configure the DSN in the Strategy server and in Strategy Desktop or Web.

DSN Configuration in Strategy Server

  1. Select the SAP HANA ODBC driver, HDBODBC, from the ODBC administrator.
  2. Enter a Data Source Name and Server:Port number, typically the port is 30015.
  3. Click Connect. The new DSN should successfully connect using a valid username and password.

DSN Configuration in Strategy Web or Desktop

  1. When using an existing DSN, there is no option to choose the type of authentication since the underlying DSN determines the authentication mechanism.

When using a DSN-less connection, the default option is to use password authentication. Enter a User and Password when establishing the DSN-less connection.

Configure Kerberos Authentication

Strategy supports Single Sign-On (SSO) access to SAP HANA using Kerberos when the Strategy Intelligence Server resides on either a Windows operating system or a Linux system.
To set up Kerberos for use with SAP HANA and Strategy, see How to set up Kerberos for use with SAP HANA and MicroStrategy.

Configure SSL Authentication

To set up SSL/TLS connection between Strategy clients and a SAP HANA server, see
KB483476: How to Configure SSL/TLS in MicroStrategy for SAP HANA.

Untested/Unsupported

Windows authentication (NTLM)

User Defined Roles

Strategy allows you to leverage SAP HANA's database concept of User Defined Roles. For more information, see MicroStrategy Personas and SAP HANA User Defined Roles.
